About TableTalk
TableTalk forecasts five European football leagues every night: each team's chances of the title, the top places and relegation, and a prediction for every match. The method is written down, the assumptions are flagged, and the predictions are checked against what actually happened.
Not betting advice
These are model probabilities, not certainties. The model trails the betting market (see the backtests), and nothing here is a recommendation to bet.
Where the data comes from
- football-data.co.uk: results and second-division results (for promoted teams). All leagues.
- Football-Data.org API: results and the fixture list with kick-off times. All leagues.
- openfootball: a second opinion on the fixture list. All leagues.
Football data provided by the Football-Data.org API. Historical results and closing odds from football-data.co.uk. When two sources disagree about a score, the nightly update stops for that league rather than guess.
Privacy
- No trackers, no cookies, no analytics scripts, no adverts.
- The pages make no requests to other servers: fonts and everything else come from this site, and the numbers are built into each page.
- Your theme, table settings and favourite team are saved only in your own browser (local storage), and never sent anywhere. Details below.
The site is delivered by Cloudflare, which stores its files and sends them to you. Like any web server, it sees the normal details of each request: your IP address, the page asked for, the time and your browser's user-agent. Cloudflare counts those requests on its own servers, and TableTalk looks only at the anonymous totals (how many requests, and from which countries), never at who made them. Nothing on the pages counts you: no script, and nothing stored in your browser for it. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers what it keeps. The code and the nightly data files are on GitHub; visiting the site never contacts GitHub, only following a link there does.
Your team: what's stored
Nothing is stored until you choose something. When you pick a favourite team, or press "Not now" on the "Pick your team" box, this browser keeps one small entry for this site:
tabletalk-favourite- Your team (for example
{"v":1,"team":"arsenal","name":"Arsenal","league":"premier_league"}): a format version, the team's short web name, its name, and the league it was in when you chose it. If you pressed "Not now", it also notes that, so the box doesn't come back. tabletalk-theme- Your Appearance choice (for example
floodlights), only if you picked one.
It is local storage, not a cookie: it is never sent to this site or anyone else with your requests, and the site has no server that could read it. The pages work out what to show in your browser.
How to remove it
- "Your team" at the top of any page, then "Remove my team". (This keeps a note that you said "Not now", so the box stays away.)
- To remove everything, clear this site's data in your browser's settings (often called "site data" or "cookies and site data"; it includes local storage). The site then behaves as on your first visit.
Some browsers forget it
Safari (on iPhone, iPad and Mac) deletes a site's local storage after seven days of using Safari without visiting that site. Other browsers may clear it to free up space. Two ways to keep your team:
- Use your personal link ("Your team", then "Use on another device"): opening it asks before setting your team again, on any device.
- Add TableTalk to your home screen. An app added this way keeps its own storage, which Safari doesn't clear after seven days. It starts empty, separate from your browser, so pick your team once there.
