The Purification Faction, who refer to themselves as the "Society of Tranquil Ice," are an offshoot of the Society of True Teachings who preach an apocalyptic dogma. Their creed is that the Hazards and the ice age that began after them were God's will, done in order to purify the world. Complete purification - that is, the extinction of the human race - is their ultimate goal, beginning with the nation of Japan, untouched by the Hazards. Due to their teachings, the Purification Faction is considered not only heretical, but a dangerous terrorist organization.
